Wyoming Coalition for the Homeless
SLEEPING BAG PROGRAM

In October 1997 the Wyoming Coalition for the Homeless began making sleeping bags for homeless who sleep outside.

In June 1998 WCH began making day packs and sleeping bags for children. These have been given to children on Indian Reservations in South Dakota, Arizona and Wyoming, Safe House in Cheyenne, Catholic Social Services Refugee Center in Salt Lake City, UT, 1st Presbyterian Church in Cheyenne for shipment to Bosnia, Cheyenne Interfaith Hospitality Network, People to End Homelessness in Providence, RI, Cheyenne Respite, St. Joseph's Children's Home in Torrington, WY and other programs working with children. Surplus fabrics have been given to quilting programs in Cheyenne and Casper.

Volunteers are needed to help with the sleeping bag project -- you can make either children's bags, adult bags or both, or you can cut out kits for others to sew. Materials, kits, sewing machines, patterns are available for groups and individuals to use in making the bags. The sleeping bag "manufacturing" area is at the WCH Richards Center where there is plenty of room to store fabrics, cut fabrics and sew the bags.
